Biography

“Her sad-eyed Buster Keaton presentation daunts the listener into wondering whether she’s being serious, sardonic, or satiric. And the answer is, yes.”

Amy Allison is the daughter of jazz great, Mose Allison. She has been a fixture on the New York scene for almost twenty years, while her timeless songcraft and wholly unique sound have won her press kudos and a cult following in the US and abroad.

Her distinctively affecting vocals and gift for penning heartfelt and piquant songs on personal yet universal themes, have impressed luminaries such as Elvis Costello, who included her album, the Maudlin Years in his list of the “500 Greatest Albums Ever” in the Vanity Fair music issue of November 2000.

Along with 11 originals, Amy’s new album, Everything and Nothing Too, (produced by David Scott and recorded in East Kilbride, Scotland), includes 2 cover songs, “Everyday is Like Sunday” (Morrissey) and “Was”, a Mose Allison song, on which he plays and sings.

Amy has recorded three other solo albums (The Maudlin Years, Sad Girl, and No Frills Friend) and two albums (Dreadful Sorry and Old Dreams) as a duo with Ryan Hedgecock, formerly of Lone Justice, under the name, Parlor James.

Her songs have been recorded by the artists, Laura Cantrell ("The Whiskey Makes You Sweeter”) and Kristi Rose (“Cheater’s World”) and featured in movies (“Homefries”, “Mutant Aliens”, and “Virgin”).

She has provided guest vocals on many records by such artists as They Might Be Giants, The Pearlfishers, The Silos, The Last Town Chorus and Mudhoney.
